C.S Multiplayer Tips: Improve Your K/D Ratio!

Counter Strike is one of the worlds most popular gaming titles. Despite having no single-player story mode, it revolutionized the gaming industry and set the benchmark for modern FPS (first person shooters). Its ability to run on lower config machines has also removed barriers that other popular games like Battlefield and Call Of Duty cant surmount. And since its the holiday season now, I’m gonna dive head on into multiplayer! Be warned: the online competition is intense! So much as sneak a peek and you might receive a headshot!!

Here are a collection of tips that helped me increase my Kill/Death ratio:
1) Watch HeatoN’s tips to master recoil, grenade tricks and much more.
2) Never spray (fire continuously) Fire off 1 to 3 rounds with accuracy and you’re more likely to score a kill.
3) Never try to go in alone. Playing with team mates usually helps in 2 ways: They take the hit for you! 😛 Or they might let you take the killing shot.
4) Some quick shortcuts for the basic items: B82 – Kevlar And Helmet, B6 and B7 –  Primary and Secondary Ammo or just use the comma and fullstop keys, B14 – Desert Eagle (best pistol by far),  B43 -M4A1 (for CT’s) and B42 – Ak47 (for T’s).
5) When moving into a corner if there is an enemy, jump and fire downwards towards the head. If possible use a shotgun or a gun which has burst fire mode. Different modes can be enabled using the right mouse button.
6) Plant the bomb in a position you can easily cover. Example: in de_dust2 plant the bomb near the crate at the bottom. Move into the snake pit and kill any incoming CT’s using a good long-range gun.
7) As always there’s no substitute for practice. Start of with bots. Play 1 on 2, 1 on 3 and so on in a small map. As you get better raise the difficulty level step by step. If you think you’re ready go ahead and play online.

Rainmeter: Customize your desktop, your way!

To put it in a nutshell, Rainmeter is the best desktop customization program for Windows. Almost everyone would have watched Iron Man at least once! (If not please do so, its one of the best superhero movies out there) The biggest thing about it was the amazing GUI (graphics user interface) in Tony’s lab. To capture it simply, it would look something like this:

While we cant expect something as high tech as this on our screens (yet), we do have something to fill the gap and at the same time, even run on slower systems: Rainmeter.

What you need:

A Windows PC (XP to Win8 supported)

A broadband internet connection for certain features.

and your good to go!

Its open source so free for download and of course customization! Click here to download. The Iron Man theme looks like:

With a little patience, you can add all sorts of shortcuts, hide desktop icons and taskbar and customize with an array of free themes!

Themes can be found here.

Again, the link to the original webpage is here.

Adding shortcuts:

1) First find the location of the app, document or folder you want to execute. For example if I want to execute uTorrent, ill naviagate to “C:\Program Files\uTorrent” and click on uTorrent.exe . So your required location for the app is “C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe”

2) Right click on the Skin and choose “Edit Skin” in the drop down menu. If the  menu doesnt doesn’t appear it means you’re clicking in the wrong place. Move the mouse cursor and try again.

3) It opens a notepad file for you to modify. You’ll find text like this that keeps repeating, just with different values:

buttoncommand=!execute [“#folder6path#“]

fontface=after disaster

4) The first bold and Italian should be replaced with the location while the second should be replaced with the text you want to appear on the screen, to get something like this:

buttoncommand=!execute [“C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe”]

fontface=after disaster

5) Save the document. Right click to get the same drop down menu mentioned in point 2. Click on “Refresh Skin” and voila!! You’re done 😀

More will be posted on how to edit your Weather, Notes and Slideshow app 🙂 Thanks for reading!

Nexus 10: iPad killer?

When the iPad first released in 2010 it provided the perfect blend between a laptop and a smartphone. It wasn’t the first tablet to ever exist but it redefined tablet computing. And till date it has been going from strength to strength leaving its competitors far behind even after 2 years of release. Many wonder, will there ever be a tablet which will oust the current king from his throne? I may be speculating but based on the spec sheet of the Nexus 10, I think the iPad finally has a worthy competitor.

Manufactured by Samsung and Google, the Nexus 10 joins its younger brother, the Nexus 7 in an already congested tablet market. Its main targets the iPad and the iPad mini respectively. Nexus 7 and the iPad mini trade blows without leaving a clear winner, but this time we may have a clear winner if one doesn’t nit pick.

Hi People!

Hi people. I am Vidur Vishnudutt an 18-year-old College student from India. And yeah I am one among the millions of Engineering students from India ardently pursuing electronics as a passion.

My basic interests are blogging, surfing, chit-chats with friends, playing football ( I won’t call it soccer!), basketball and most other sports. And yeah Computers!! Computers have attracted me from the moment I got a chance to type away to my heart’s delight (8th grade to be precise). I started blogging recently after a friend introduced me to it. And I can confidently say that there is no substitute for a good teacher! 🙂

The reason I created my blog was to document all topics in the techno, gaming and college world which interest me with a dash of humor. I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I have fun posting them. Keep reading Xtreme Techie! 😀
